From Bibles to Bisexuals: One Writer’s Journey
Recently someone asked me why I write so much about sexuality. After all, they said, I was a well-established author of Christian Living books with a decent platform and lots of opportunities with speaking gigs.
“We miss the wisdom and insight you brought to topics of faith and community ministry. Why give all that up?”
It’s a fair question, but one with a more involved answer.
Ever since I was a child, I knew I wanted to be a writer. Not only did I love it more than anything else, but it was also part of the family history. My grandfather owned and served as editor of our local newspaper- founded by his grandfather in the early 1900s. I even own an English translation of Machiavelli’s “The Prince” translated by my great-great-great-grandfather over a century ago.
So, when I signed my first book contract with a reputable Christian publisher, I was over the moon. The list of endorsements for my book (and for me, as its author) was long and impressive. A friend in the industry told me that my “star was on the rise” and that I could expect big things in the years to come. Of course, I realize that the praise was somewhat overstated, as I am not an especially gifted writer or a spiritual master with some rare wisdom. But…
