James Finn, good question. I realized that I left that somewhat vague. The heart of it is in this sentence:
“Instead, we must be willing to interrogate and dismantle any systems of power and privilege that comes at the expense of others.”
More specifically, cishet folks need to unpack “straightness” and their gender identities & expressions. They need to interrogate the dominant “whiteness” of church culture, structures, etc. We have to face toxic masculinity, patriarchy, and militarism in our cis male dominated leadership. The challenge is not primarily coming from the margins but from the dominant created problems. Welcoming anyone into that space just puts them at further risk.
I know I could get more specific (and I am writing a book about it now), but perhaps it will be another article. ;)
